About

Have you ever met this guy who has fun making noises all the time? Well, that would be me.

I’m a musician, an audio engineer and also an programmer. And yes, I am an action movies fan since I was a little kid.

MY EXPERIENCE RESUME

Sound design

Training

Creatively speaking, I have taught myself, with the exception of the School of Video Game Audio’s Wwise & Sound Design course.

Technically I am well trained thanks to my professional qualification in Sound Engineering and my university degree in Audio Engineering.

This includes field and studio recording techniques (foley, music and voice), audio creation and processing techniques, and knowledge of both acoustic and psychoacoustic principles and mechanics.

Experience

I gather about 14 years of experience creating with sound all together. 2 with short films, video production, 4 with music and +8 with games.

  • Games
  • Music
  • Video

I use 2 DAWs, Cubase, which I have been using for the last 20 years, and Reaper for the last 2 years.

Audio Engineering

Training

Besides the Sound Engineering profesional qualification and the Audio Engineering university degree, I did an Audio Mix Engineering master of 6 months with music producer Soma which gave me in-depth knowledge and understanding of the mixing process and the methods to optimize the time and quality of sound production.

Experience

I gather +5 years of experience mixing and mastering audio in total.

  • Games
  • Music
  • Video

Programming

Training

I started coding at the University for audio and image processing in C++ and Mathlab but I didn’t take it seriously until I did a master’s degree in Java EE at Atrium School, several PHP, HTML5 and Javascript courses at EscuelaIT and later the Junior Developer Path – Unity Learn program.

  • Javascript 45% 45%
  • Typescript 45% 45%
  • C# 10% 10%

Experience

10 years as Web Technologies Programmer in total, all blending 8 years programming games and 5 years programming audio.

+1 year as Unity Game Audio Programmer.

  • Howler.js 67% 67%
  • Phaser.js 22% 22%
  • FMOD 11% 11%

About Me

I can say I love engineering but I have always been an artist, ready to create in improvisation.
I’m very organized but I like to follow my instincts when I’m working. Experience always save time and problems.

How I manage projects

I usually follow an organized process that might change in order to adapt to the specific project nature and needs, but it could be formulated in general terms as follows:

1

What do we want?

First, a little study to find the key goals and concepts that will keep the project on track along the way.

2

What do we have?

Then, check and investigate until there is a suitable map that reaches all corners and boundaries.

3

What do we need?

Start with the design and its balance from the most important elements to the least until a first set of elements covers the entire project as a minimum viable model.

4

When do we stop?

Keep adding elements in calculated, scheduled batches and passing by ear throughout the project (mixing) to maintain balance. This continues until everything is perfect and/or the deadline is reached.

I like to document all the phases and elements involved in a project, basically so that the people I work with and I are consistent throughout the entire journey and nothing is left behind.

How I work with people

I have worked some years alone and others in a team, remotely or in the office, without people under my supervision and leading a small team. This is my way of thinking:

1

Competition ≠ Teamwork

In a team I believe that competition is pure poison for people. It may be natural among companies but not for people who share the same means and objectives.

2

Collaboration = Teamwork

Collaboration is the key to creating an environment of trust and responsibility, which means people learn and develop faster, are more efficient, happy and comfortable.

3

Sharing = Enrichment

Sharing knowledge is not just for mentors. Even the smallest thing for one person can be the key for another to achieve something big. We learn a lot from the experience told by another person, especially when there is trust.

Music is my element

I play drums, guitar, bass, piano and also sing. I enjoy a professional collection of virtual instruments, synths and samplers as well that I use to compose and produce music.

Music is my strongest passion, when I’m not listening music  I’m humming, beatboxing or hitting stuff at tempo, even in my dreams!

When I was 11 years old I received my first guitar lesson. I didn’t know it at the time, but it would change the way I see the world around me.

When I was 15 I was already creating my own songs in Cool Edit 2.1, although I started recording many years before with an old cassette and a shabby microphone.
Now I can say I’ve used some DAWs such ProTools, FL Studio, Sound Forge, but I keep myself busy with Cubase since almost 20 years or Reaper for the last 2 years.

A mix of engineering and creativity

My training as an engineer and the experience I have gathered working with sound in theater, radio, short films, music and video games, has made me aware of how sound really works. Both physically, technically and creatively.

For that reason,

  1. I do not follow magic recipes.
  2. I do not apply universal formulas.
  3. I do not use shortcuts.

I take my time to create specific sound solutions for each challenge presented to me.

I love playing with sound

I think that video games are the perfect tool to live other realities, experiment, learn, escape, be other people or other beings, travel to the future or other places beyond our reach.

With video games we have the opportunity to interact, to be part of those stories, of those unique experiences.

And those experiences are full of musical emotions, sound textures and voices.

I enjoy creating something new every day

You’ve come this far, thank you very much for your interest! If you still want to know more about me, I can tell you that, even if it’s not with sound, I really like to create anything interesting. I love working with wood, for example, and I enjoy designing and building whenever I have time, even if it’s very crazy stuff.
